This week it has been my first time to....

...intentionally skip class (hey I haven't before and I was really stressed out; it was 2 classes actually)

...be in the library after it has closed (W-Club officers' meeting)

...go to a guys' dorm room in Edwards (it's my boyfriend's room and it's visitation night)

...be approved by my vestry at Trinity to move on to the diocesan process (I hope this is one time thing)

...sent in my application packet for the priesthood in the Diocese of Texas (ditto with the previous statement)

*Well, we're learning the Qal Imperfect now. Instead of saying that we killed something, we can now say that we will kill something.

*Two guys were close to coveting my peanut butter and jelly sandwich today. It's the same old PB&J that I've been bringing for most of the semester, but today to these two guys the aroma was overcoming. I'm glad I kept the sandwich in my hand during the quiz because if I didn't Chess would have grabbed it.

*When we were writing the Qal Imperfect on the board, our professor mention weaknesses and a minor expletive slipped out. Chess overheard it and said that it made his day.

Well, it should be my first day of volunteering at the Betty Hardwick Center, but I'm in my room working on my church history study guide. What's going on here? I can usually get over this (and this might be a total surprise for those who peg me as an extrovert), but I have a fear of new people and new situations. If new people approach me, I'm fine, but if I have to approach them that's another story. Like I said, I can usually get over this and it's just the initial time that is scary for me. Once I'm "thrown into the water" I'm fine, but if I'm standing at the shore looking at the water, that's when I tense up. If the new situation is ambigious and I don't know what to do or where to be or what I'll be doing, it causes even more tension. If there's a person I know in the new situation, I can do it. If there's a person with me in a new situation, I can do it. It's just at times when there are all new people and a new situation, I will not do it.

In September, I almost decided not to go to the Latin Dancing Club meeting because of my fear of new people and new situations. It must have been a Godsend that night because just as I was getting out of my truck another girl got out of her truck and she was afraid that she wouldn't know anybody. I told her that we knew each other now. I'm glad that I got up enough courage to go because many good things have happened because of going.

Maybe it's just the courage that I need.
